Working as a Manny
My sister's friend who graduated from Yale in 07 is working as a nanny after getting laid off. The people who employ are loaded. He's a hedge fund manager and she's an MD at either at MS or JP.. I heard pay is around 1200/week. What do people think about working as manny or nanny while looking for a job?
Go be a tutor if you get fired. My buddy is making 50-75 bucks an hour teaching people the GMAT. Biggest perk? Tax-free cash..
you could make sure you Manny for an MD Caliber-type and study for the CFA or GMAT while making Potato Salad for the picnic you have to haul 4 "tweens" to. In all seriousness, making $1200 a week and having the chance to study and hopefully network with your "boss" might be worth it in this shitty economy. Just be prepared for you friends to make fun of your apron.

haha nice thread. I'd consider doing that if it payed off
I thought this was going to be about applying Manny Ramirez's work ethic in IBD. That kind of attitude could only work in the buyside, in one of the chiller shops at that.
Just watch the Nanny Diaries. After being a nanny, Scarlett Johannson will never be able to work in finance.
My former nanny is now working for somebody in the Forbes 100, pulling in mid six figures and trekking around the world on their private jet and yacht. If you are that good with kids and continue racking up great references, I imagine that would be a pretty good role to be in.
Drexel you had a nanny? Im assuming this nanny came at a hefty price, did you have maids as well? Anyways sounds to me your a spoiled brat with connections. Safe assumptions right? Let me know how your yachting adventure with Kip went.
My friend is the nanny for a family worth billions. They take her on vacation with them, pay for her rent, and buy her stuff all the time. In fact, I believe they subsidized her education as well. Pretty good gig if you can swing it.

Manny/nanny gig is def a good one if you can work for a hooked up family. Great networking opportunity, usually pays pretty well esp, when you consider all the perks, and it seems pretty chill.
I'd do it if I got laid off and there was a billionaire family willing to hire me to mentor their kids :)
thread ive read in a while
Short any manager who employs a male nanny. Exceptionally poor judgement. I don’t like the idea of a grown man bathing and changing my children.

I respectfully disagree. If I had 3 boys I would much rather have them watched by a recent college grad guy than some crotchety 60 year old woman or dumb blond twenty-something...

I just saw this posting on my school's career services job listings:

It looks like a pretty sweet gig if you have zero marketable skills and wouldn't mind being a poseur
wtf is a manny lol
