Year 13 Student - How much does course matter at a target?
As stated above. The target is UCL but the course is completely different to finance and seen as 'soft' according to others and is non-traditional but I still like it. Mostly interested in corporate banking and commercial banking but wouldn't mind asset management or sales.
It doesn't
Thanks! Other people told me that banks only target UCL for STEM/Traditional courses so I'm getting different answers.
No bank is going to have specific courses they target from universities, that's just way too specific a method for recruiting. That being said Chemistry at UCL is unusually good at recruiting for springs anecdotally speaking.
I see now. One more question, would Durham BA Accounting and Finance hinder me from getting into Corp Banking, Commercial Banking and AM? Yes, it's a semi-target but I'm also quite into the course so I'm having trouble deciding between UCL and Durham.
An irrelevant course like Geography or Psychology won't really effect your chances as long as you can show interest in the industry through other means.
While Finance/Econ/STEM would help you with technicals and interview question examples it probably won't significantly increase your chances purely based on the degree your studying.
Placement for these disciplines are higher because people who take them already have an interest in the industry and can on average give better answers to technical questions as their studies are fairly related.
