Turned college GPA of 1.7 into 4.0, what do
Hi monkeys this is my first time posting, and midnight here in Toronto as my eyes burn from lack of sleep seems like a great time to seek any tips on working with a poor college cumulative GPA for a freshly graduated Accounting undergrad
1st & 2nd year GPA: 1.7
3rd & 4th year GPA: 4.1
Cumulative GPA: 2.6
Family issues in my first half of university led to the terrible results displayed
But I hunkered down to pull those damn grades up for the latter half of uni
Now I'm no crazy man and have no belief in reaching wall street with these kind of marks
I've tried to be realistic with my career goals and have targets for Public Accounting firms or any of the Big 5 banks
And its not entirely doom & gloom, I have a decent resume of work experiences/co-op terms
Including Tax and Internal Audit work for several medium and one large organization (possibly a very well known Canadian tech firm)
But any tips/advice/soul crushing truths on what my marks situation, and thanks in advance for any help monkeys
So lay it on me; no pain, no gain
You would definitely have some chance. You must had hard enough time coming over your family issue and achieving that grade at the same time, but you made it so far.
How did you get a 4.1 in college?
Start using periods.
Seriously though, the last two years show you have the work ethic. Start networking with people at your target companies. Try to meet, make a legitimate connection, and see if they can push your name through HR. Good luck.
Normally I would say don't do this but since the disparity is so gigantic, list your GPA like this:
Cumulative GPA: 2.6 (1st/2nd year: 1.7; 3rd/4th year: 4.1)
You will probably get dinged from most online resume submissions due to not being above 3.0 but if you network and explain your story I think you will have success.
Just want to follow up on this old post, I'm in the c suite and boards of several pubco's.
Got here through grinding public accounting, using recruiter to get in family office, displayed competence and earned their trust enough to grant me these kind of opportunities.
No pain/no gain. Started writing with periods too.
This is 1.7 to 2.6....
