Hi everyone:
I'd appreciate your thoughts on the following - how can one become a strong IBD/PE analyst? I'm a good student who's been able to do well in school by doing extra practices on my own - I'm fairly self-aware that I'm not one of those people who gets ahead by being smart, I have average speed to learn, but I've done well by putting in more work and hours than others. I have seen many people in school who are faster learners than me, but I've been able to do okay so far (target school, 3.7+ gpa) by studying harder.
I'm currently working and not sure how I can become a strong analyst. I rank in the lower half (but not in the bottom) in terms of speed to learn new things, I think. Given that the hours are so long, I'm not sure how I can use my usual tactic of studying more than others or practicing on my own at home.
Would you have any advice for me please? I'd still very much like to be able to improve, but not sure how when everyone is already working so hard and I'm just average in terms of learning speed. Anything I can do on my own to improve please?

Focus on attitude, communication, attention to detail, building relationships and generally not screwing up. Accept that you'll probably start out towards the bottom of the class and try to catch up when others start getting complacent.
Don't try to work harder / longer hours than everyone else - you'll just burn yourself out.
Thank you! Yes, I think your advice is right - I will accept that I'll probably start near the bottom. I hope people won't always peg me as the "bottom analyst" though....Do you often see people being able to catch up later?

I think most seniors value someone they can trust more than having "the smartest" analyst in the class. If you prove yourself to be reliable and make fewer mistakes than your peers, you'll do more than fine.
