Take Classes?

Should I take some accounting classes at a local college while I job search? I’m looking for IB positions or something that would help me jump to IB later. My situation: I graduated August 09 from a nontarget with Econ/Fin majors. I’ve had a job since graduation just to fill the resume gap - a tiny company and very non-finance role. I’ve had strong financial services internships (one PE), though no IB.

I’m mainly want these classes to show future interviewers I’ve been doing something finance related. Should I take Intermediate 2 (I never took it, plus it covers debt and equity)? Retake Int 1 since I forgot it all? Take a pure finance course (though I feel conceptually fine with finance since I majored in it)? Classes would start mid January and of course I’d quit the classes if I got a job. Thanks.

Accounting may be beneficial -- knowing your way around financial statements can really make a difference, especially if you're coming in off-cycle and would not have the opportunity to go through training.

This may be a nice little resume-booster, but it's unlikely to be a deciding factor in getting a gig. I can't imagine it would hurt, but it's going to take a lot more than taking a class -- get on the phone!

Also, go to Intermediate 2 -- don't want to take a class you've already taken, and once you start with I2 the stuff you need to know from I1 will come back to you.

I'm also in a similar situation. Would taking intro financial accounting and finance classes be more beneficial than doing a program like the Investment Banking Certificate from NYU? I did not take either class while I was an undergrad, but I did take the CFA exam in December. Any responses would be helpful. Thanks.
