Lol. This video has already gone viral, and she has removed all of her info from the web. What a dumb racist bimbo.

It's not black and white "racism". It may be politically incorrect, culturally insensitive and it's walking the line of racism, but it is certainly not that.

No, it's clear from her comments and tone that she's racist, whether it's her stupid impersonation of an asian accent or saying, "hordes of asian studets are let into UCLA," as if she has more of a right to be at the school than the asians.

"Even if you're not Asian, you really shouldn't be on your cell phone at the library..."

It's not the cell phone that gets her, it's speaking ching chong in public spaces. I'm going to go the library with my parents and scream ching chong while they do my laundry and cook dinner in a corner with a rice cooker and george foreman grill.

Lacist bitch.

Though it may look like it on first glance, i don't think so. She's definitely wearing an insane push-up bra to maximize cleavage. Trust me, I'm an expert.

Am I the only one that thinks it wasn't that bad? She's definitely a little twat who thinks way too highly of herself, but there's a fine line between being 'racist' and a 'bitch'. It wasn't actually 'racist', just politically incorrect. And I guarantee 99% of you monkeys are politically incorrect yourselves.

As an Asian myself, the only part I really found remotely offensive was the 'ching chong' bit but seriously if I can't handle that, then I have some bigger problems in life to worry about than some tit-tacular girl on Youtube ranting about Asians in the library.

This bish will never have a legitimate career, and rightfully so.

I hope she gets interviews everywhere she applies (obviously on UCLA's merit, not her own). Then I hope all of her interviewers are Asian. Finally I hope that she gets dinged everywhere across the board for her stupid ass thought process.

She deserves everything that comes to her. This type of shit definitely weeds out the stupid from the smart.

I understand that being asian doesn't justify sanctioning this video but for all of you who went to an asian-exchange-student heavy college, you know exactly what she's talking about. As a chinese-born individual raised in the US, I've been back to the East countless times since coming here when I was 5. Let me tell you first hand that the culture there doesn't lend itself to a culture of personal space and close-proximity/situational etiquette. Simple acts of courtesy that we take for granted here such as those mentioned by the chick just isn't widely practiced in china, korea, or japan. Asking why would mean writing an entire dissertation about the differences between East Asian and Western culture. That said, I am by no means a huge fan of these exchange students. You'd think that the reason why they're studying abroad is to familiarize themselves and broaden their horizon with American culture. But no, they simply roam in groups, refuse to interact at length with people outside of their ethnicity (or with a person such as myself who they see as an outsider), and hog up space so to speak. There have many times when I personally had to walk up to a group of boisterous chinese people sitting in the library/study hall and tell them politely in mandarin to keep it down (the shock of an "americanized" chinese speaking perfect mandarin on their faces is always priceless). All I'm saying is that the girl has a point and I feel for her.

I haven't had a carb since 2004.

Well, I have similar background as you. I do think some of the exchange students are somewhat socially awkward. But are you seriously trying to justify her behaviors? "Hordes of Asian people", "ching chong, etc. I think some of the exchange students are just too afraid to approach someone who's not similar to them. Moreover, their upbringing is different as well. If she felt that these Asian people's boisterous behavior is intolerable, she can bring an i-pod. She also mentioned the tragic event in Japan without showing any sympathy. Instead of bashing the so call "FOBs", maybe you can help them adjusting to American culture and manners. I often see American born Hispanics often help Hispanics who just came from Latin American countries. That's often not the case for Asians in America. Honestly, I sometimes feel that they can be annoy sometimes. But please don't be condescending to them simply because you are more "Americanized" .

And I agree with you 100%. Keep in mind that all I'm entertaining is the point she is bringing to the table. Like Lebron's, her ends doesn't justify her means.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but don't you get the sense sometimes that there are some ethnicities you can get away with bashing publicly, and some that will bring down a world of shit and pain on you if you dare the slightest transgression?

For the record: I think Asians are one of those groups that get bashed on with far too much impunity. Muslims also get a hell of a time too.

Yeah I kind of get that sense too. With Asians (and I believe with Indians as well), there does seem to be a lot of cases of bashing that doesn't result in retaliation. Though this Alexandra Wallace thing clearly struck a cord (if she had not included the tsunami reference, it probably wouldn't go viral).

Reason for this might be because Asians & Indians are no longer seen as the "minority" that needs protection or are entitled "minority perks". Just like on WSO where we read about SEO programs and 'whether being a minority helps' - there are a ton of overachieving Asians/Indians fighting over lucrative jobs with their Caucasian counterparts. Most are no longer immigrants of poverty; many are quite well off, or comfortably middle class. You shouldn't kick someone while they're down - but many Asians/Indians are not - so it might be seen as less/not offensive.

This is my guess anyway. Or it could just be that we don't care to get as offended and haven't had as many Asian/Indian Al Sharpton and Jesse Jacksons calling racism.

I absolutely agree. You can get away with be racist against (in order of social acceptance): Caucasians, Arabs/Persians/anyone who is Muslim, Native Americans, Asians, Hispanics, and African Americans. For some reason (the reason being slavery, of course), when people think of racism in the US, they think of white people discriminating against black people.

In England, Blacks are far more accepted that, say, Polish or Russian immigrants (and I promise the UK is at least as racist as the US). France is even worse. If yoo're racist in France (a larger portion of the populace than you might think), you'll dislike all non-French speaking people, then French-speaking Arabs or North Africans, then French-speaking Africans.

In fact, most of the world is quite racist. The US is far, far, far more accepting of other cultures than just about any other country on the planet (except maybe Canada). It's a product of the way America was formed (through immigration). And let's not forget that white people in the US were quite racist against other whites for quite some time. Irish and Italian immigrants didn't exactly have it easy. And there are plenty of white Jews that are still discriminated against on a regular basis.

I'm not saying it's right, but it's not total nonsense to me either. If the US exists in its current state as the result of European dominance, then it's sort of the right of those Europeans to maintain their spoils of war. We are a violent species, and we keep what we conquer. Only in (very) recent history has any country even considered willingly giving up a portion of its empire. And the only countries to have ever done it are European.

I think we still have a ways to go, but it should definitely be known that white people are no more racist than any other race. You don't believe me? Go live in another country. I have lived in 6 different countries. My father was a diplomat, and the liberalism and acceptance you may learn at Harvard or Oxford does not necessarily carry across continents.

In any case, minorities in the US sometimes forget how good they have it.

And you shouldn't speak on your phone in the library. It's bad manners.

Also, if you're in a group of people (French speakers...listen up), you should try to speak a language that everyone in the group shares. I speak Spanish, Korean and Arabic, and if I were in a group of people that all spoke English, I wouldn't hold a side conversation with a Frenchie in French. It's rude, and it's just noise to the rest of the group.

Agreed (with ivoteforthatguy). Let's also remember that we're all immigrants here. I would say that the Asians' "talking in the library" is less offensive than some of the cultural faux pas (e.g. slavery, conquest, REO Speedwagon) that white people introduced to the new world.

I assume "Wallace" is not an American Indian name. I stand corrected if it is.

She's not fat?? Are you fucking kidding me???

In all fairness I can empathize, b/c objectively speaking being loud in the library or any public setting is just distasteful, but that applies to everyone, including loud srat girls (not to generalize, im in a srat too) talking about last night's hook ups. And uhh not all asians come from asia?

No one was able to study for finals last night at UCLA because of this video... my facebook was literally blowing up with people responding to this thing. I think its sort of ignorant that people reply by saying stuff like "stupid white girl" though. They're kind of missing the whole point that if they're offended, throwing it right back at her isn't necessarily solving shit. They were posting her address and phone number online, since it WAS available through the campus directory (they pulled it after she was being harassed to an extreme level).

At Powell (our library), I haven't experienced this. But I understand what shes talking about. At the same time, I don't know why shes getting so much more attention than she really deserves. Our chancellor sent out emails today, news teams were on campus... its kind of outrageous that a single video can stir up that much trouble. People need to realize that there is shit that is a LOT worse than that video that is hitting the world right now. You have to look at it in a different perspective than just acting on impulse.

as a UCLA alum, seeing this made me way pissed

white girls white guys black asian middle eastern etc etc ....everybody and their mother would talk waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay tooo much on their phone at powell....wtf man...im not even asian and ive always known asians to be polite..and anyway if u had to get any real work done you would go to the stacks near bunche hall....or hit powell at 2am with 2 redbulls

ahh memories at club powell...but anyway this girls way out of line, total embarrassment to the ucla community ...maybe ucla students should all contribute 1 dollar to pay for her transfer to USC

I'm ghost white and most of my close friends are non-white (my best friends are Vietnamese, Bolivian, Pakistani, Indian, and Persian). What I love about my friends is that we are ridiculously "racist" with each other--we poke fun at each others' cultures and races. There is definitely a line between pointing out annoying things and being racist. Family Guy, for example, does this all the time with Asians, Jews, blacks, Middle Easterners and Irish, for example. Family Guy makes fun of conservative Christians on a regular basis. I love the show--I've learned to laugh at myself.

I like pointing out to my Pakistani business partner, Ali, that it is so freaking annoying how the Middle Easterners would basically confiscate the basketball court at the gym 3 nights a week to play volleyball in short shorts with their obscenely hairy legs. We get a good laugh out of it and he hits me right back--he'll even joke about himself being a terrorist.

In sum, people REALLY need to chill out. We're all prejudice. Most of us are probably even racist (why do blacks have mostly black friends, Asians Asian friends, and whites white friends?). Learn to laugh at yourself. Learn to take even hateful insults and let them roll off your back. At the end of the day, it's meaningless. Spending your life angry at politically incorrect statements is going to make you a miserable, uninteresting person.

I got the same kind of social circle where we joke about white trash, filipino houseboys, jews, whatever.

That's all good but this chick isn't really joking among friends. I think the Asians are learning from the black and Jewish tactics -- scream as loud as you can in response to any and all Don Imus moments. Which I think is a damn shame because there is too much screaming as it is, but come on, can you blame them? First, it works well for the soul brothas and the Israelites. Can you even IMAGINE this chick making the same video about blacks or Jews? I actually applaud them. I had a good Muslim friend when I was younger and she used to cry because "all the bad guys on TV look like her uncles" (pre-9/11, mind you). People have the right to say offensive shit. People also have the right to raise hell when it happens. Believe it or not, they used to make the same kinds of really racist attacks on Irish and Germans, and the Irish went along with it until they didn't. You know the rest of the story.

I can't fully respect a guy who won't stand up for himself, but even if he's not, I'm not going to let my minority friend take shit from anyone, because a guy who doesn't stand up for his friends even in this abstract sense isn't worth shit.

My $.02, dude. Peace.

I suspect you would agree with me though, that the way you do it is crucial. There is a huge difference between joking around with your friends about this stuff, even if you guys do it in an incredibly harsh way. There's even a huge difference between making it a joke and putting together a stand-up routine. For example, if you did a stand-up routine about the Middle Easterners playing volleyball in their short shorts with their hairy legs, and put it on youtube, I think people would laugh. If instead, you were actually complaining about it, sounded ignorant, and put it all over youtube, it'd come off way different. Now, she definitely has the right to post that shit on youtube if she wants. All I'm saying, is people are going to think she's stupid. And, I understand that some people would be a little offended (although, I agree with you that they shouldn't let it ruin their day and blow it out of proportion).

P.S. Pakistan is not technically the Middle East, as a friend pointed out to me a few months ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_East

Omg, have we become this soft? We fought a fucking civil war to end slavery, a world war indirectly to end a holocaust of Jews and Chinese, and we had a movement of 100 years to end Jim Crow laws. If people can't handle "ching ching" then they are going to die an early heart-related death. Who cares what a dumb blonde (where's the outrage about dumb blonde white girl jokes) has to say about easily observable things such as Asian immigrants living at the library? Is this not what all of us observed in college? Who gives a damn, really?

Array

I'm torn Virginia Tech, because in some ways I agree with you that people are overly sensitive. With that said though, don't people have the right to be offended (even if just slightly) for some racist comments? For example, I was a little offended when one of my black friends was telling me how white people are clearly more racist than any other group. I was a little offended because I agree with what you said early about people from all races being racist. Should I have just completely brushed it off?

Here's the thing. Political correctness has blurred the line of where real racism/discrimination lies. Even the very existence of countries points to the observable "fact" that the overwhelming majority of human beings are at the very least highly prejudice. We self-segregate as if it were in our DNA--and it probably is. But what has been blurred is what actual racism and discrimination actually are. The truth is, the girl said what millions of people before her have thought. That's not "racist" or even any form of discrimination--that's simply political incorrectness.

My friends know I'm the most "prejudice" person on the face of the earth because I'm straight-up honest about it--and, in turn, they can be honest with me. But what I don't do is let those prejudices impact how I treat people. Treat people as you want to be treated, evaluate people based on merit and character, trust people, remain loyal to people, don't stab people in the back, evaluate business transactions based on merit, don't lie, don't cheat, don't steal. This is the point I'm trying to make--simply saying what you believe or what you observe may be a manifestation of prejudice, sure. But so long a person's individual prejudices are not used to discriminate against people simply because of a person's race or ethnic origin, then I say, who gives a crap? All it is is words. If we really have a problem with that, maybe we'll break outside our own race circles for once.

Vtech, I'm actually with you on this, and I think a lot of the professional PC rabblerousers know just as well that it is not as serious as the hubbub is making it seem. I think they just see how the "race game" is played in the US, by the more experienced players (NAACP, Sharpton, SPLC, ADL, etc.) and they see that it's paying off. Again dude, I don't like this PC nonsense myself but I see that the PC umbrella doesn't cover all minorities equally, and the minorities that aren't getting covered are learning quickly how to make the PC system work for them.

Like it or not, the hardball thin-skinned tactics work. Again, I cannot imagine anyone making this kind of crack about blacks or Jews without ending themselves. Remember Stephanie Grace from HLS? And of course we got Imus who got thrown off the air. Who knows dude, maybe they are laughing behind closed doors because compared to the kind of shit that was happening 60 years ago a blonde chick going off on youtube is pretty laughably trivial. But I really think they are just learning the game from the aforesaid professional grievance groups, and they are actually playing the strategy down to the letter.

I agree that what people call racism is not always racism. I also agree that many people are way too PC. But, I'm just saying I can understand how some people might get a little offended by her comments. And, the whole thing made her look like an ignorant bitch, but that's another story.

I agree that this whole incident has been blown way out of proportion. Although I believe that we've become too politically correct regarding race, I am glad that my fellow Asian-Americans were vocal about this incident rather than staying quiet and not putting up a fight. By not putting up any resistance, people have gotten the impression that making fun of Asians is "ok" while they would not dare do the same thing towards blacks or jews. So I'm glad that they voiced an outcry over this and embarrassed the living crap out of Ms. Wallace. It's unfortunate, but we had to make an example out of her.

Now, people should move on, leave her alone, and let her continue her life.

It'd be kind of funny if an Asian guy gets his music career going singing about a blond ragging on Asians. He's already got +1 mil hits.

Anyone who could hate delicious Asian women is a moron.

Seriously though, Asian students are basically tuition fillers in the USA. They really struggle getting anything but a quant role in the states unless their English is polished. Since the recession, H1's have been hard to come by. UCLA probably has a shit load of Asian students because they need the full price tuition money.

Talking in the library is fucking rude, regardless of race.

In my UG experience, I found that Asians came in two types. There were the ones who could barely speak English and kept all to themselves and there were the really friendly ones who tried to make friends other than just Asian ones.

Also, before we start bitching about how racist she is, lets just say that outside of the USA, racism and prejudice is rampant.

Chinese people don't like Japanese people. Japanese don't like the Chinese. Asian people don't like black people. India has all kinds of biases and crap. Northern Italians don't like Sicilians. On and on. This whole PC bullshit needs to die. It has obviously failed.

FYI, The blonde is both hot and epically smash-tastic.

UCLA is full of Asians because the UC system practices race-blind admissions (i.e. no race-based affirmative action). Same reason why Cal Tech is full of dudes and Asians
