The Masters 2013, will Tiger win?

Mod note (andy): what are the odds that Tiger wins?

Ah a wonderful week of sports. Monday it was a great national championship game down to the wire, capped off by a horrible call towards the end of the game when Burke pinned the ball against the backboard on a Siva fastbreak. Horrible way to end a great season for the Wolverines. But alas, grats to the Louisville Cardinals and a heartwarming ending to the team that saw one of its key players break his leg during the tournament. This is also the last full week of the regular NBA season where we will probably see an epic choke job by the Lakers. More on playoffs preview next week, I suppose.

This week, however, all spotlight is on the best annual tournament. Going to the event is certainly on the list of things I'd love to do in the next few years. When people talk about the Masters, you can hear the admiration of the event in their voices. Then you hear the CBS music, Verne and Nantz's voice, the grass, the applause and cheers, and the great moments throughout the years.

Tiger reclaimed his #1 ranking in the world after falling as far out as outside of top 50 at one point. Some stirred-up controversy between Tiger and Rory, which should make for good TV. Phil looks to win his 4th green jacket. (did you know he has never been the #1 ranked player in the world? color me shocked). Crowd favorite Tom Watson is back again (I thought he retired). Anyways, Vegas seems to think Tiger, Rory, and Phil are the big three favorites this weekend.

I leave you with this amazing shot from last year's Master:

Are you excited for this year's event? I know many of you monkeys probably have played Augusta before. Share your story!

I've played it before, awesome course. I'm kind of a golf addict and play everyday at a simulator (99.8% accurate) during lunch, pop in for like 5-6 holes or just work on one club for a session.

I think he has a great shot of winning, he has never played better than he is right now. I've watched every single golf tournament on my phone this year thus far while working and won't miss this one.

Rory will not win, Phil will not win. Both will be top 10, Phil probably even top 5.

My top 5/6: T. Woods, J. Rose, G. McDowell, F. Jacobson, B. Snedeker/R. Fowler

Other players to watch: Watson, Rory, Phil, Johnson, Stricker

I've been to the Masters and walked the whole course for a few years. What's it like to actually play there? Was the course in similar condition to the state it's in right now?

I'm assuming you mean right this second as we watch it. When I played it, a year ago, it was just as beautiful. Only thing I could say was it had more divots and marks on the fairways and greens just due to heavier use. Two key things to note, the ponds and the rough. The water hazards on the course are actually clean and nice looking compared to most clubs. Plus, the rough is barely rough at all. The other thing that is really great is the staff, you don't have 15 year old kids hanging out on their cellphones with their buddies while you wait around like a lot of country clubs do.

That's awesome; pretty much what I expected.

Did you 3- putt every hole, haha?

I was trolling, I've never played this course. No one on this website has ever played it. Its the most exclusive club there is, invite only, ~300ish members. No one seemed to pick up on that though.

I went last year in April though and yeah its gorgeous and was serious about what I said above condition-wise. You can play with a member as a guest but the members are such rare individuals. They make so much money from the Masters they maintain the course like crazy, plus a hotdog is like $1 at the Masters, clearly they don't need that money.

Anyone watching it at work? Surprised it actually works on my comp.

My roommate freshman year of college played in the Masters as an Amateur a few years back. Still one of the coolest things anyone I know has ever done.

This to all my hatin' folks seeing me getting guac right now..

I work with a guy who played Augusta last year a bunch of times over a single weekend, and put in the best single round score of his life, which was a big surprise to me. I guess he really owned that moment/opportunity.

Apparently the grounds were as good as they look today, the caddies were incredible (interestingly, they get to play one round per season themselves, right after the course closes down to members which is shortly after the Masters), everything was impeccable, etc.

Can only hope I get that opportunity at some point.
