HBS vs. Wharton for Investment Banking
Post By @CantSlowDown

I know HBS is purely case method, and I know that is not always the most conducive in teaching fundamental principles of finance, but having talked to many veterans who have gone to banking it seems that most learn how to do the job on the job. At Wharton students told me that Wharton is the place to go for banking. What do you think? Harvard Business School or Wharton?

A Story of Persistence: If I Can Make It, You Can Too
Post By @madmoney15

People often said my dreams were unobtainable and I would be the last person they’d pick for a career in banking. Guess what? They were wrong. Believe in yourself and everything else will take care of itself.IF YOU WANT TO GET INTO INVESTMENT BANKING, I RECOMMEND INTERNING AT A PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM FIRST. PE firms and IB firms go hand in hand, and the sourcing guys know all the Investment Bankers. You will have somebody vouching for who you are when your resume reaches the Bankers inbox. The hit rate is 100x higher than if you were cold calling or cold e-mailing.

What about the Average Joe?
Post By @streetman101

My question is how does the average guy/girl fare in this industry coming from 2-3 years of banking? Let's fast forward 15 years after they finish their analyst stint. What are some good-not-great positions for a 35-40 year old in this industry? CFO at a small, private company? VP at a PE firm?

I will appreciate any insight from those who have gone down similar paths or personally know some who have.

No bonus because I've been at firm for less than 1 year???
Post By @louiscarruthers

I'm confused about what I should do if my boss doesn't end up giving me either a raise or the bonus I feel I deserve. I think I was duped because I didn't know about this "under one year" rule in advance. Should I talk with HR and use this as my case? Or am I just fucked? Either way, I learned a valuable lesson for the future.

TLDR: I had no prior knowledge from my offer contract that working at my firm for under a year meant you get a tiny bonus, even if the company does well and you get a good performance review. What are my options for getting the bonus I feel I deserve?

Can sleeping with a client get an intern fired? I may have made a mistake.
Post By @Surveillance

If someone finds out about this, could I be fired? I'm concerned that some of the other clients from the client organization might have inferred what was going on.

Pre-MBA Internship, Anyone do one?
Post By @TwoThrones

So I finally got into a few programs and did a quick search, but I could not find anything substantial about a Pre-MBA internship. I'm not even sure where to start looking or in which function. Does anyone have experience with this area? How is the payment structured?

Also, I am currently in corporate finance at a F500, and may be pursuing consulting, banking, or tech during the MBA, haven't made a full decision yet. Not sure if that even matters.

Metals & Mining Interview Question?
Post By @goldmanstanley99

Can someone help answer these questions for M&M group?

Why is CAPM bad to use for gold?
Why P/NAV is better than most ratios?
EV/Resources vs. EV/Reserves? Explain.
What would you look at for valuing a mine? (Price of commodity, political risk, geo risk, etc)

How to get over burnout
Post By @Stripstrapoption

I have been working 100+ hour weeks for over 3 years so far, but recently I have become burnt out. I have lost my desire for anything and everything. I have no desire to work, make money, go out, buy crap, nothing! All I want to do is just sleep and be alone.

I'm not the one to bitch and moan about my problems, but this is the first time I have ever felt this way. I used to love working hard and long hours, but something just snapped and I lost my ambition.

How do I get that fire back? How do I get over burnout? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
