Associate Bonuses - Expecting higher?
Now that we are getting to that time of year (I know a few banks are giving the word next week). What are Associates expecting this year?
If the stub bonus for first year Associates last year was $45K and people are expecting bonuses for first full year Associates this year to be around the same level what are people expecting the stub bonus to be?
Are people expecting higher than $50 to $70K for 1 year Associate full bonus?
Don't think we'll be setting any records this year! hah
im guessing analysts and associates should be looking to have bonuses that are down 60-70% YoY.
this is based on the fact that MS said their operating committee's bonuses will be down 75%...now clearly they aren't going to be down nearly as much for top traders/banking MDs, but...as an analyst and associate you don't bring in any business. that is, you're replaceable at very low cost to the firm.
obviously if you're in a bank thats doing well (boutique) or restructuring or FIG or some other hot group, it could be down a lot less
You will get 0-20k. and you will be grateful
D - I - T - T - O spells Ditt-OH.
We're about to enter a Great Depression. Don't you want a president who's already dressed for it?
Seriously, to echo what others have said...be happy you've got a seat
stub numbers may literally be nothing
your bonus is that you get to keep your job for another month.

I'll take Cornelius's idea for a bonus over nothing any day!
senior bankers are hit much harder, since they are paid on the business they generate. no business = no bonus. Junior guys bonuses are actually more insulated. seems to me that around here, people are expecting analyst bonuses next year at 20-30-40 levels. like 2002 levels...
You guys honestly think stub will be nothing? Is that what has happened in the past (e.g. '02–'03)? [I'm genuinely asking, not being passive aggressive/condescending]
I have mostly heard talk along the lines of what officer farva ("Say RamRod!') wrote, that senior bankers take the biggest hits, whereas junior bankers' bonuses are a bit more secure. Not to say that numbers won't be down, but I'd never, ever heard anyone suggest analyst/associate bonuses would be zero.
has anyone seen a solid stub bonus number yet? i haven't heard/seen one yet from anyone reliable. should know this week about some banks though.
people on the board keep comparing this to 02-03 or other recent downturns. this is far worse, if you havent noticed 3 major investment banks no longer exist and the independent IB model is now dead. if you get anything this year end you should be thanking your lucky stars, regardless of how many hours you've worked. im in the 0-30k boat.
I think some bankers will accept a negative bonus ( a pay decrease)... This is better than having massive layoffs, I wonder why financial institutions don't consider this action
dont seem like that big of a difference than neg bonuses...
Even if your firm has the capacity to give out a bonus close to what you're expecting, imagine the gravity of the hype the media would create over such a number especially if these banks have taken federal aid. Not giving a bonus should not be an indicator that your firm cannot afford to do so (Even though they probably can't) but more of an indicator that firms are adhering to some sort of a principle.
the media doesn't care about some IBD associate getting 45k for stub
Alright, numbers are coming out now...some of the message boards on dealbreaker are saying between 100 and 150 for first full year Associates. That seems high...but can anyone confirm that they actually received something in this range?

its not 150 for first year associate. that was some dude in PE just making a point. you're talking about comment 142 from last night on that one thread (can't remember the thread or i'd name it)
I don't have any solid numbers yet from my firm or my friends but I can tell you it won't be 150 (atleast I expect it wont)
My expectations on the over/under are $75K for 1st year associates.
Ok...Let's take sides....
Over
Under
under
Wayyyyyyyyyyyy Under
i'm assuming a low juice on this one like -105 for the under so i'll go ahead and take under for 105 to win 100.
