Virtual Summer Interns - which banks sent you WFH gear?
Interning at GS next summer and wondering if they’ll send us WFH set ups if we aren’t in the office. Like do we get a company laptop or should I invest in a PC now? Do they send us monitors? I rather piece together a set up now then be caught off guard and lacking for two weeks if they spring on us that we’re not going to be in person.
Curious to know how EBs/BBs generally handled virtual internships in for 2020 as well
.
we wont be virutal next summer
Thanks for answering the question I didn’t ask
Like the optimism but highly, highly doubt SAs will be in person next yr
You don't know what you're talking about.
Curious to see what Jefferies did this year.
bump
Jefferies sent a full WFH setup incl. laptop, monitor and keyboard
Which office was this for?
Most likely will get a laptop with a headset/mouse with maybe some apparel or bags but no monitors. I recommend getting a monitor to plug the laptop into for an extra screen.
Expected laptop and mouse, but a headset sounds kinda nice. Do you have any recommendations for a good monitor? Are dual monitors ever necessary?
If you can afford it, get dual monitors and you'll wonder how you ever lived without them.
@ MS we gave a decent budget to set up WFH desks (monitor and stuff). You're definitely not getting a laptop just for the summer unless you're in Tech/Quant without one, and have a specific project that requires it.
So interns on macs were basically SOL unless they wanted to get a new personal PC? lol good to know
Wdym? You use your personal device only to log onto a virtual machine (i.e. your PC at work). There is no file transfer, no external emails etc. Everything you do is on the virtual desktop, and you can connect to those using pretty much anything. Let it be a Mac, Windows, Linux...phone...
At my BB we were only given a bag. I wouldn’t get a Mac. Would be a pain to deal with over the summer. If you’re on a budget go for cheap thinkpads. I bought a T450 I5-5300U with 8gb of ram and 512 GB SSD for $200. I was skeptical at first but it ended up exceeding my expectations. Installed a cheap monitor, keyboard and mouse. All for less than $350. It got me through the internship just fine and I now use that setup more than my Mac.
This information is gold and probably what I’ll end up doing, thank you
I also got a cheap Thinkpad off Amazon and it worked great
I also did this and it was invaluable. You can even get a newer thinkpad for pretty cheap directly from their site if you wait for a sale period which is what I did.
I was at KeyBanc Capital Markets this summer and we received a backpack, a ThinkPad T495 laptop (which we had to ship back at the end of our internship), a notebook, pens, and some snacks. Unfortunately no monitor but I already had one at home I used!
What snacks did you get
Pretty much all BBs sent laptops and had you return them, dont bank on anything else
less than half of BBs sent laptops
yea jpm didnt send laptops
We got a laptop for the summer, but no extra monitor.
Liontree sent 2 monitors to each intern. I don't know about other BBs.
Interned at GS 2020. You only got a laptop if you requested one. I used my Macbook pro (with upgraded specs) and connected it to a big external monitor + external keyboard. You do remote login so you don’t necessarily need a PC but it might be helpful to get one for keyboard reasons.
Lovely, wish I could PM to ask you a bit more a out your experience. I have a MacBook Pro too, so do you log onto like a virtual PC? would be fine doing the Mac to monitor thing Witt an external keyboard but my current keyboard is windows layout/keystrokes.
Would you say most of your work required you to use excel? That’s probably the only place where id really like to start out using PC Bc of the QAT
At Evercore we received a headset, keyboard, and mouse that we were allowed to keep and a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop that we had to return at the end of the summer. We also received a $100 reimbursement to purchase a monitor of our choosing and $100 for WiFi/cell service costs since we used our personal cell phones as work phones. We also received a banker bag halfway through the summer, and were given the same food allowance as full-time employees (up to $100 on takeout or groceries per week)
Wish I was smart enough for an EB holy shit
well damn Evercore interns won this one
I hear Credit suisse got vest, banker bag, water bottle, notebook, pen. No monitor, no $ towards monitor, no laptop. I think S&T got keyboards and BBG stickers. Would've been nice if they gave offers too
LMAO a FT offer lasts for two years but the swag is forever...cheap bastards
Was at an MM, didn't get sent any actual gear but for a couple hundred dollar stiped to pay for things.
which MM?
Was it Jefferies?
