Virtual Summer Interns - which banks sent you WFH gear?

Interning at GS next summer and wondering if they’ll send us WFH set ups if we aren’t in the office. Like do we get a company laptop or should I invest in a PC now? Do they send us monitors? I rather piece together a set up now then be caught off guard and lacking for two weeks if they spring on us that we’re not going to be in person.

Curious to know how EBs/BBs generally handled virtual internships in for 2020 as well

@ MS we gave a decent budget to set up WFH desks (monitor and stuff). You're definitely not getting a laptop just for the summer unless you're in Tech/Quant without one, and have a specific project that requires it.

Wdym? You use your personal device only to log onto a virtual machine (i.e. your PC at work). There is no file transfer, no external emails etc. Everything you do is on the virtual desktop, and you can connect to those using pretty much anything. Let it be a Mac, Windows, Linux...phone...

At my BB we were only given a bag. I wouldn’t get a Mac. Would be a pain to deal with over the summer. If you’re on a budget go for cheap thinkpads. I bought a T450 I5-5300U with 8gb of ram and 512 GB SSD for $200. I was skeptical at first but it ended up exceeding my expectations. Installed a cheap monitor, keyboard and mouse. All for less than $350. It got me through the internship just fine and I now use that setup more than my Mac.

Interned at GS 2020. You only got a laptop if you requested one. I used my Macbook pro (with upgraded specs) and connected it to a big external monitor + external keyboard. You do remote login so you don’t necessarily need a PC but it might be helpful to get one for keyboard reasons.

Lovely, wish I could PM to ask you a bit more a out your experience. I have a MacBook Pro too, so do you log onto like a virtual PC? would be fine doing the Mac to monitor thing Witt an external keyboard but my current keyboard is windows layout/keystrokes.

Would you say most of your work required you to use excel? That’s probably the only place where id really like to start out using PC Bc of the QAT

At Evercore we received a headset, keyboard, and mouse that we were allowed to keep and a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop that we had to return at the end of the summer. We also received a $100 reimbursement to purchase a monitor of our choosing and $100 for WiFi/cell service costs since we used our personal cell phones as work phones. We also received a banker bag halfway through the summer, and were given the same food allowance as full-time employees (up to $100 on takeout or groceries per week)
