Singapore (SG) is a sovereign island country and city-state located in Southeast Asia. Known as the “Lion City,” or affectionately as a “Little Red Dot” or “Garden City,” Singapore has grown rapidly over the years into a highly-developed economy and one of four Asian Tigers.

A strategic location and an inherently business-friendly environment attributed to the low taxes and highly talented human capital, coupled with the government’s focus on bringing international companies to set up here, make it a hot spot for foreign investment.

As such, when many Fortune 500 companies set up local offices and operations within Singapore, it is no surprise that Singapore’s accounting and the advisory scene is well developed, catering to both MNCs and homegrown companies.

Such firms cater to companies’ professional needs, which must adhere to various local laws and regulations. Singapore’s laws and regulations are some of the strictest in the world, and such services are critical in ensuring firms don’t run afoul of them.

Apart from making sure the companies’ books make sense, they also ensure that firms can fully utilize Singapore’s advantageous tax code and provide a growing suite of professional services in areas such as digital consultancy.

Top Professional Services and Accounting Firms in Singapore

It is no surprise that the Big 4 (comprising Deloitte, EY, PwC, and KPMG) are featured prominently on this list, with their long-established history, the wealth of experience, and large-scale operations that involve thousands of employees.

They tend to be considered as a collective as they are similar in size (concerning revenue and manpower) and can provide a wide scope of professional services to their clients, which includes 99% of all Fortune 500 companies and many Singapore Exchange (SGX) companies.

Their reputation and exposure for employees make it a lucrative place to start and develop their careers, with many Accountancy fresh graduates in Singapore entering them.

In many parts of the world (Singapore included), regulated businesses such as audit and legal firms must be locally owned and independent. Big 4 member firms are generally locally owned and managed by their partners.

However, Singapore’s self-grown accounting firms have grown in size over the years, with many becoming middle-tier firms and providing a suite of services for both SGX-listed and private companies.

The below list (not ranked in any significance) represents the top 10 firms, including homegrown and local auditing firms such as Foo Kon Tan LLP etc.

PwC Singapore

In Singapore, over 3,500 employees within PwC help resolve complex issues for both public and private companies and the government and help various organizations explore future growth and opportunities.

PWC

While PwC started with audit and assurance services over a century ago, they have not sat on its laurels. As times changed, they developed specialized tax, advisory, and consulting capabilities.

Their professional services include helping companies address emerging business challenges ranging from digital transformation, mergers, and acquisitions to sustainability.

Accounting and Advisory Scene in Singapore

As a top choice for FDI, Singapore attracts large investments and an increasing number of MNCs and family offices. With SMEs incentivized to expand and scale by the Singapore government, the professional services pie is huge enough for all to have a slice of it.

However, such firms are open to more than just the same few prevalent worldwide. The bigger players tend to service the larger firms locally due to their need for added expertise and other matters and the larger firm’s ability to bear the costs incurred.

The 291,600 SMEs in Singapore make up 99% of all enterprises and 71% of total employment.

These are the kind of businesses that the smaller scale accounting/advisory firms cater to, as they can also provide a more customized and relevant service that they will need, as the needs for the different demographics between SMEs and MNCs vary greatly.

Looking to enter the accounting and advisory industry? In such a competitive environment, every single advantage and edge matters. So equip yourself with the most desirable skills and learn more about them below!
