Top AM firms in London?

Am a prospective UG about to start in London, and want to know which firms are the best for AM in London, as well as how I can land any graduate offers for a full time job in any of them.

AM recruitment and hiring, especially in London, tends to be not particularly brilliant for UGs. So I’m wondering what’s the best path I can take to maximise my chances of getting into a top AM firm in London.

Thanks in advance, any and all responses deeply appreciated.

Most AM firms have summer internship programs which is for after you finish 2nd year, which will then convert to FT offers for grad schemes.

In 1st year of uni try and get involved with your uni’s investment club or finance society, and paper trade or run live money - you need to show your interest in investing to stand out from your peers. I traded US/UK stocks long and short developed a rationale for each trade and kept a trading log, this made my CV stand out and shows that you have a real interest in investing.

May be worth while reaching out to some smaller boutique type firms to see if you can get a couple weeks experience in the summer before 2nd year - this will help boost your chances in securing a place on a summer internship scheme.

I’ve been casually paper trading for about 2 years, so I’ve already got something in the bag there.

I plan on applying for spring weeks in 1st year, as well as networking extensively throughout all 3 years of the course, since I’m going to a non-target.

One thing I don’t get is: why can’t I apply for summer internships in 1st year? It would save me some time and be more convenient for my studies.

Otherwise, thanks a lot for your in-depth, detailed answer - I’ll certainly be taking all this into consideration!
