Bain Private Equity Distressed Turnarounds
This group comes under the Bain Corporate Renewal group. The work actually sounds quite interesting. Has anyone worked here? What are the hours/pay like? What's the culture like? And since , it's the up or out world , What are the exit options?
I'm guessing they recruit from the usual MBB suspects

As far as I know, it's just one of Bain "ring-fences" which in principle are similar to IBD gropus. There is no separate recruiting for it - you get in as an Associate or Consultant and start as a generalist. After a few months you might join a ring-fence for 6 or 12 months. During that time you would be doing similar type of projects over and over again and be part of the ring-fence's staffing pool which is separate from the rest of the office. Sometimes such staffing pool is regional rather than office-based. Not all the offices have all the ring-fences so check before applying.
In terms of culture, it's exactly the same as Bain culture as it's populated by Bain employees on a rotational basis. Pay is exactly the same as well. Hours for anything related to PE tend to be longer than average. From friends' experiences I would say c. 20% longer on average but obviously it varies greatly. Exit opps are similar to standard exit opps from consulting but with higher chances of landing a job in a consulting-friendly PE shop. Distressed turnarounds are a lot more fast-paced than regular consulting projects so (a) learning curve is steeper and (b) it's easier get either the top or the bottom rank as your outstanding performance/shortcomings are more easily visible.
