Biglaw mid-level associate to consulting

Hi,

I'm a mid-level associate at a V10 law firm in the mid-west, primarily doing patent litigation. I didn't attend a top 14 law school (think mid tier 1), however. I'm fed up with life in biglaw, however, and would like to know:

Is it viable to switch to a consulting firm (such as MBB)? If so, would I apply as an experienced professional? I know I would need to work on case interview skills, but that's really all I know about recruiting to consulting.

Any and all answers and advice are greatly appreciated.

Yes and yes, though you'd be applying as an experienced professional solely as your intake path -- you'd likely come in as an entry-level at the same career step as immediately post JD folks.

That is, unless you want to try and leverage your patent / IP background and come in as an IP expert, in which case you would likely come in a bit more senior but would be on a specialist rather than generalist track.

Thanks for the response - I realize I'd be coming in as an associate. I know there are resources for case interview preparation, but a few questions:

  1. How long does case interview prep take? A month? More?
  2. Should I hold off on applying until I have some familiarity with the case method? I did take a strategy class from the business school when in law school, and did have to present a few cases, but that's the extent of my exposure to it.
