Biglaw mid-level associate to consulting
Hi,
I'm a mid-level associate at a V10 law firm in the mid-west, primarily doing patent litigation. I didn't attend a top 14 law school (think mid tier 1), however. I'm fed up with life in biglaw, however, and would like to know:
Is it viable to switch to a consulting firm (such as MBB)? If so, would I apply as an experienced professional? I know I would need to work on case interview skills, but that's really all I know about recruiting to consulting.
Any and all answers and advice are greatly appreciated.
Yes and yes, though you'd be applying as an experienced professional solely as your intake path -- you'd likely come in as an entry-level at the same career step as immediately post JD folks.
That is, unless you want to try and leverage your patent / IP background and come in as an IP expert, in which case you would likely come in a bit more senior but would be on a specialist rather than generalist track.
Is this a common switch? I thought law to consulting was tough
JD->MBB immediately after graduation is fairly common, switching to MBB after 1-2 years at biglaw is less common but still definitely happens. I can think of 4-5 folks at my firm who have done so off the top of my head.
Thanks for the response - I realize I'd be coming in as an associate. I know there are resources for case interview preparation, but a few questions:
