CA useful for consulting?

Hi guys i am a first year in a top Canadian undergrad business program, i want to get into consulting, i have spoken to a few people one of whom is a CA and the other an engineer who are both in consulting. They suggested to me that i should get a CA and build some core competencies and get solid work experience before i get into consulting. I dont fully agree. I have also spoken to a few first and second year consultants who have said that the training and mentoring programs at MBB give you the skills that you need as you progress up the company.

I dont know which one is a better option, any veteran consultants who can give me an opinion? Also i have been considering doing a CFA because i haven't ruled out Ibanking for the future. Will CFA be of any use in consulting?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.
