Cal Poly SLO, UW Madison, or Kelley for MBB consulting?

I got into these schools, UW and cal poly for CS and kelley for finance. which one will help me the most in breaking into mbb consulting? (I'm also interested in product management). I'm hesitant on kelley because getting into the consulting workshop is hard, UW because I did not apply for business, and cal poly because of its relatively nonexistant mbb recruiting. Also, would you recommend going to UIUC if i get off the wait list, for cs+econ (I could try transfering to the business school). I want to work in either the bay area or LA.

Thanks.

I'm not going to comment on school choice but MBB recruiting is going to be a lot harder than getting into the consulting workshop. So if you don't back yourself now how do you expect to land an MBB offer?

Dude, MBB is good goal and if you crush it, it's certainly possible but relatively few kids get it outside of the top consulting schools. Even some people at Harvard Business School with IB and PE experience strike out in MBB recruiting. My advice would be to look at consulting recruiting more broadly when deciding schools if you're interested in that field rather than which school gives you a 1-2% higher chance at MBB.

But maybe you were the valedictorian of your high school and got a 1570 SAT. Then go ahead and focus entirely on MBB.

I know jack about MBB recruiting from these schools, but sounds like based on that alone, Kelley has a slight advantage with the workshop. That being said, MBB recruiting is very difficult, even from top targets, so be prepared to cast a wider net than MBB if you’re seriously interested in consulting. Perhaps look at LinkedIn to see where students place from each school.

Also, location may factor into placement. Wisco and IU will be more Chicago-centric, and Poly alum go to Bay Area and LA more often. However, you can recruit for different locations, just be prepared to put in the work to make it happen.

Feel free to PM me for further info on these schools and recruiting. For reference, I have experience with some of the listed schools and placed into SF/LA from East Coast for finance.

All options listed will be loads of fun, and you’ll be a successful individual regardless of where you choose. Congrats!
