Can I still get in as an MBB associate consultant given my background?

I've been working as a data scientist at a Fortune 30 Company for nearly 3 years. I completed undergrad from a target school a half level below HYP + Wharton (think Columbia, UChicago, Upenn non Wharton) and know a few classmates at MBB. Would these connections help?

Given my career goals, I'd like to do something more client facing as a next career move. I'm open to doing either data science consulting or traditional strategy consulting.

How hard is it to get into MBB as a traditional strategy management consultant if not directly from school? Any anecdotes on how some ppl did it?
