career path for knowledge team in bcg

Hello to the consultants out there! What are the career prospects of someone working as a research analyst within a consulting company? They call it knowledge team in BCG and knowledge something in mck. Coming from people in the team, it was first specialize in your industry and support the consultants well. And after x years you can either move up the knowledge ladder or establish yourself as a specialist consultant. Any thoughts?

Research analyst and knowledge track are different. Research analysts just look up stuff constantly. Knowledge specialists are specialized consultants. Research analysts are 'back-office' and don't develop into consulting positions. Knowledge specialists are consultants and climb up the ladder that way. I've often heard that even knowledge specialists feel like they are treated as librarians at MBB.
