Data Analytics: Deloitte or Accenture

Hi, I'm currently supporting Deloitte's Financial Advisory practice with a launch of their Data Analytics services in M&A transactions. I moved to this position 8 months ago, after internal finance/data analytics work at Deloitte. I'm an expert in data modeling and visualization, with decent BI skills (not on the coding side, though). I am the only data person among 100 financial experts with almost zero data affinity. I also have a decent understanding of FSI sector (+5 years at a banking sector). BUT: I almost have no projects, there is no data granular enough, there is no focus on 'new ways of working' with analytics. And i certainly am not challenged, and have no clear career path. I feel like i cannot grow where i am.

My goal is to:
- become a full around BI professional, with main focus on data visualisation, data storytelling and drawing insights from data (data analytics consulting, if you like).

I got a good offer from Accenture Digital for a position of Visual Analytics Consultant. I am actually about to leave Deloitte (after my 2,5 year career here).

My doubts/concerns/questions:

  • Accenture is seen as little less that Deloitte, but i think it's more into modern technology that DTT.
  • I have a brilliant reputation at Deloitte, it only seems i am at a wrong seat. I cannot move immediately as i already did a (wrong) internal move to Deloitte Financial Advisory only a few months ago). At Accenture the interviews were fine, very good actually, and they seem very keen on onboarding me.
  • Through joining Accenture I hope to get day to day exposure to all-things-data and to get a day-to-day on the job training-while-doing so that in a 1-3 years my skillset has grown visibly.
  • I don't exclude coming back to DTT after that time.

Can anyone share your thoughts to help me?

Thank you!

Sounds like Deloitte Digital could be a good fit based on your interest in Accenture's program and favor towards Deloitte. However, the recent switch and lack of potential connections in the consulting practice could make the switch difficult and timely. The switch might make more sense to try and do the work you want to and leverage it later on.

Sounds like u should move to Accenture digital for the time being.

a.) Accenture is known for analytics, and came it at #1 for IT operations and IT Strategy Consulting by Vault this year... The brand strength, especially within the digital space, is undeniably there

b. I was once told the following by a mentor of mine. The best way to move internally, to a difference business unit within your company: move to that unit at a competitor, prove yourself, then come back. I think this applies perfectly to your situation,a nd that you could return to Deloitte digital down the line
