Design and Innovation Consulting
Hey guys,
I was wondering whether anybody here ever worked for a design and innovation consulting firm such as IDEO, ?WHat if! or Frog? There are a lot of those companies out there (http://www.quora. com/What-companies-are-similar-to-IDEO) but I cannot find much information about them!
What are the best and most prestigious firms in the sector? Do those firms compete with MBB & Co or is it a small niche in the consulting sector? What are the opportunities for people without traditional design experience per se?

consulting = giving advice
you can have consultants in any industry.
these guys are not in the same industry as MBB.
Consultants like IDEO help companies create products or services for the customers/clients (literally, with finished product designs and not just advice) while other consultants, like MBB, tell companies what direction to go in and sometimes venture into ops where they tell people what to do better.
Ok, thanks for that clarification. Does anyone know a "ranking" of those companies? Is there a 1st tier, 2nd tier etc. compared to management consulting? Does anybody have experience working for one of those firms?

I believe booz has an innovation/ideation practice. It's more related to growth strategy than creative design.
What the heck is design and innovation consulting? How is this different from graphic or industrial design? If it's not related to graphic or industrial design, I'd say the title for this profession is very confusing. Must be annoying to constantly clarify what you do for a living is NOT graphic or industrial design related. Would be tiresome!
