Do MBB care if a summer intern reneged another offer?

I'm worried that MBB might find out I reneged another offer. How much do they care if a summer intern reneged an offer from another firm? Would they rescind the internship or not give a return offer because of it?

They probably wouldn't find out (unless your school's career services offices sucked or the company you reneged on got super pissed off, which i find unlikely), and if they did find out, I doubt they would care THAT much. Obviously it's not a great look to renege in the first place, b/c it shows you might renege on MBB as well, but if MBB is your dream over whatever other offer you had/have, then you should go for it.

Generally, a pretty bad look to renege if you sourced the offer through on-campus recruiting. I would make sure you understand what the consequences are from a school perspective. I know that if you renege some schools will bar you from campus interviews for subsequent years. That being said MBB probably won't find out. If they do, they might keep a closer eye on you, but I don't think it will complete jeopardize your future there.

Is there any use of career services after you have already gotten an offer? Consulting firms have 90%+ return offer rates and I don't think there are many post-grad opportunities that go through career services.

Let’s say they do find out and decide to no offer you (unlikely) or the economy tanks and they no offer you (slightly more likely). You would be in a pretty bad position with no job and the best channel for getting one closed to you.
