EY Tax+PwC Assurance>>Consulting?

Hi,

I'm just done with my first year of university and I am right now a tax advisory intern at Ernst & Young. I secured a spot for next summer at PwC in Assurance. The thing is, what I really want to do is Consulting and not audit or tax. As I still have a year till next summer, I'll be looking at internships at consultancies but I would like to know if these internships I have now would really set me off track?

Any help would be appreciated. I am quite confused now and have doubts about how useful it is to have two so similar (tax/audit) internships at two different big 4 in two consecutive years.

Thank you!

It could make your resume lean too heavily towards accounting if consulting is your end goal. I don't think the audit internship would add much value/bring you closer towards consulting. I would more actively pursue internships with consulting

If you do a fantastic job at your audit internship, then get consulting offers from other firms, even less prestigious ones, you might be able to leverage this into an offer at PwC or E&Y consulting. Otherwise, though I would say it is better than nothing, but you definitely need to get a consulting internship to have a solid chance at a full time consulting offer.

Interesting. How are big4 with transferring between different businesses, say audit->consulting or corpfin->tax? Are the areas as strictly segregated like they are in banks?
