GRE quant scores for MBB

Hi, I have been reading about management consulting for quite some time and I am pretty confident that this is a job I would really love. I'm finishing a STEM PhD at a target school where I've done fairly well (3.97 GPA, won an external fellowship) and where others in my department have gone on to work for MBB in recent years. I feel like my resume is competitive with the exception of my GRE scores. I took the old GRE and scored a 770 (85th percentile) on the quant, 530 (64th percentile. ouch!) on the verbal and 5.5 on the analytical writing (86th percentile). I almost retook the test since I didn't study and assumed I could do better.

I never thought I would have to think about these scores again, but now that I'm considering management consulting I worry that they are borderline. From what I've read, the verbal score isn't that important, but I think my quant score is on the low end for MBB. For those of you who took the newer GRE format, a 770 quant on the old test is about a 161 on the new one. I spoke with a current MBB employee from my school who said she got a 790 (91st percentile) on the quant. My 770 might be close to that, but I'm wondering if it's near or below a "cutoff"- if one exists. If so, I want to retake the test.

Does anyone else have any input or data on preferred GRE quant scores at these firms?

Thanks. I guess I will retake the test. It's easy enough, and I can take a free practice test online. Too bad my ACT scores aren't admissible (I would assume this is the case for PhD applicants) since my ACT score (composite as well as math score) was 98th percentile.
