HighPoint Associates

Hello, I am a current senior at a semi-target (think UCLA, USC, UCB) who interned at a T2 consulting firm this past summer and did not get a return. I have been exploring boutique consulting firms in the LA area and was wondering if anyone has ever heard of HighPoint Associates. Hoping to hear more about how the associate program is perceived in the industry.

HighPoint Associates is a boutique consulting firm that focuses on strategy and management consulting, often working with senior executives to address critical business challenges. While it may not have the same brand recognition as MBB or even Tier 2 firms, boutique firms like HighPoint Associates can still offer valuable experience, especially if you're looking to build a strong foundation in consulting.

Here are a few points to consider about boutique firms like HighPoint Associates:

  1. Industry Perception: Boutique firms are generally well-regarded for their specialized expertise and ability to provide tailored solutions. However, they may not carry the same weight as larger firms when it comes to exit opportunities into industries like private equity or corporate strategy roles. That said, the experience you gain can still be highly valuable, especially if you work on impactful projects.

  2. Career Growth: At boutique firms, you may have more opportunities to take on significant responsibilities early in your career. This can be a great way to develop your skills and build a strong consulting toolkit.

  3. Networking and Exit Opportunities: While the network may not be as extensive as MBB or Tier 2 firms, boutique firms often have strong relationships within specific industries or regions. This can be advantageous if you’re looking to stay in the LA area or target a particular sector.

  4. Fit for Your Situation: Given your background as a senior at a semi-target school and your previous internship at a Tier 2 firm, joining a boutique firm like HighPoint Associates could be a strategic move. It allows you to gain more experience, build your resume, and potentially position yourself for a lateral move to a larger firm or a top MBA program in the future.

If you're seriously considering HighPoint Associates, it would be helpful to reach out to current or former employees to get a better sense of the firm's culture, work-life balance, and the types of projects they handle. This can provide you with a clearer picture of whether it aligns with your career goals.
