Internal Audit/Risk Consulting Exit Ops

Hey Monkeys,

I'm going to be starting my career at a relatively new firm which has been making a name for itself in internal audit/financial advisory and business risk consulting. I loved the fit of the firm, and I'm looking forward to starting, but I still have some concerns about what I will have available to me when it comes time to advance my career. I came from a branch campus from a well respected state school, but a non-target for MC or IB.

My goal is to get an MBA from T25 and to parlay that into a strategy career, either MC or Corp Strat. I'm very interested in schools along the lines of Goizueta, Johnson, McCombs and Ross.

I would really love to get some opinions and advice on what would be the best sort of path to take to get to where I want to go. The idea I have in mind is to get to senior level (or earlier) and then try and get into TAS at an EY, PwC or Deloitte and then apply to B-school. I need some guidance on how to leverage the minimally transferable skills I'll get doing IA/Risk consulting into T25 admissions and strategy.

Thanks.

Try to get into the Big4 risk advisory. Audit (aka assurance) is not respected outside of the accounting world, in other words if you do not want to be an accountant do not do audit. This is based on experiences talking with MBA admissions counselors and others in the industry, and my own research. Although there are exceptions, an auditor is at a disadvantage for top tier MBA admissions, compared with most advisory groups.
