Interning in IB and Big 4 Consulting
Hi All, I am currently an incoming IB SA for 2022. I’m going to have the chance to (likely) get an off-cycle internship at KPMG in whatever group I would like. What groups would you recommend I look into? I don’t have an interest in tax or audit. Within advisory I don’t think it makes sense to do FDD/TAS. I will already have exposure to M&A in IB and would rather get a different type of experience. What types of advisory/consulting should I be looking at? My understanding is that BIG 4 is much bigger in risk/technology consulting than strategy.
Risk assurance
Would love to hear thoughts on why
Don't do risk, it's effectively audit
B4 tech consulting means helping companies implement big digital infrastructure changes -- most people find it boring
KPMG Strategy would be your best bet and would be the best value-add for your resume from a branding perspective
Thanks for the response. Is it traditional strategy consulting or is it mostly deal focused?
Their website seems to imply they do both, but I don't have any perspective on their mix between the two. I would not be worried about making yourself seem too deal-heavy on the resume if that's your concern, even deal-related strategy consulting can typically be expressed in a variety of ways that won't make it seem redundant with what you might be working on in IB
