Is it bad to have multiple people refer you to HR? (Consulting)

Edit: Thought I'd move this over to the Consulting forum and see if there's anyone who's worked on the inside who can attest to this.

I have been combing the Alumni Database at my school in order to find some contacts for consulting that can hopefully pass my resume along. I'm assuming the lower level ones will be more willing (but I do plan on contacting higher level ones too)

Is it bad if more than one person uses the company's employee referral system to pass your resume along to HR? For instance if I end up talking to an Associate who passes my resume along and then a week later, I talk to a partner who offers to pass it along, would it look bad to have him pass it along as well?

What if it's two associates who offer to pass along my resume?

Should I try first with the higher level people and then if they don't offer to pass my resume along, then move onto the lower level people, or is it okay to start targeting everyone at first?

I don't see why it would be a bad thing that you are showing interest in their company and networking with their employees...And to answer your question, speak to everyone and anyone who will talk with you.

Hell, ask the MD's secretary on a date when you call and get the inside scoop on everything. [just kidding, but not really]

"They are all former investment bankers that were laid off in the economic collapse that Nancy Pelosi caused. They have no marketable skills, but by God they work hard."

Just wanted to bump this in the Consulting forum, see if anyone had any additional insight.

I should also mention, I'm worried about insulting the people who referred me if it turns out I've been having multiple people refer me...

Not a bad thing at all. The more eyes that see your resume the better. Eventually, you may have different recruiters contact you. Make sure to always lie when they ask if you spoke to another recruiter within the firm. It also keeps your options open because these recruiters all work differently at different speeds.
