MBB Industry Preference

I’m an incoming summer at a regional MBB office (southern half of the US) looking for guidance on which type of projects to try to get staffed on. The office works with many different industries. I am not as interested in tech or healthcare and am considering areas like media, retail, nonprofit/education, automotive and consumer products.

I like strategy work and was wondering which industries are oriented to having more pure strategy work as opposed to lots of implementation and operationally heavy work. What does financial services work look like at banks and buyside funds? Which industries pay the most to ex MBB consultants hired into internal strategy roles? I know I only have so much say in staffing but am looking to form an opinion.
