I have never heard of an official reading list but here are a few of my favorite consulting books....

  • Pyramid Principles: frames the basics on how to create an effective argument/story and will be one of the first things you learn about in training: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0273710516/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?i…

  • Lords of Strategy: the history and development of Strategy Consulting and is really interesting to read, plus you can break out all sorts of interesting tidbits during general discussion with colleagues and impress the hell out of them: https://www.amazon.com/Lords-Strategy-Intellectual-History-Corporate/dp…

  • On Competition and Competitive Strategy: Michael Porter is arguably the most influential figure in the history of corporate strategy theory and most of his theses can be found in these two books. Porter founded Monitor, which was acquired by Deloitte, so if you're going to Deloitte this could score you brownie points (but is a good read regardless of where you are working).
