MBB research VS 2nd tier consulting
Hi I graudated non target school for MBB but target school for big 4 accounting firm. However, I sometimes see that MBB firms sometimes hire research analysts or knowledge team. 1. Does getting into MBB non-consulting team is a lot easier than MBB traditional consulting?
If I choose either MBB non-consulting vs big 4 consulting which firm should I choose? (I am primarily interested in consulting but I am not just applying to consulting)
Do you think passing USCPA can help to applying to MBB? (consulting or research)
My understanding is that tier 2 consulting will be better experience to lateral (or even take a step backwards) ito MBB consulting. As you know, they all have their recruiting process, timelines, etc. The easiest way to get in is either directly from UG or MBA. Yes you would know people and could network from MBB Research BUT they are still filling the pipeline with new hires from UG and MBA. That's what they do. You might need to go to MBA and come back to MBB consulting.
I think tier 2 likely requires an MBA as well but you would have much more relevant experience.
Interested in hearing form others who have actually done this.
Hello thak you for reply So to clarify what you said, transferring from mbb non-consulting to traditional consulting is almost impossible right? Then is it possible if I go to following route? Mbb research -> top 10 MBA -> MBB consulting Because I think getting 2nd tier consulting is also extremely rigorous.

Pretty sure he was saying that it's easier to accept a tier 2 consulting job and then after a year lateral to MBB than it is to lateral from MBB research to MBB consulting.
That being said, it says you've graduated? However, from your wording, it seems like you don't have any offers from these places and you're just looking in to them? Both of these careers are incredibly difficult to get in to, even at a target school. To get into them after having graduated from a nontarget(with no experience if you didn't do a junior internship with these firms) will be incredibly difficult.
If that's the case, it may not be possible to get an MBB or even tier 2 consulting job now, so you'll have to work for a few years, do a top MBA, and then do consulting.
Good summary. It's not impossible to lateral form tier 2 to MBB pre MBA, but very difficult. Would be far easier, albeit it still challenging because it just is, to go MBA route and go through normal MBA recruiting timeline.

Everything is harder to do after graduation. If your school is a target for big 4, but you've already graduated, your chances of getting a job there went from likely to difficult, but possible. They've already filled most, if not all, of their spots for the year post-graduation with people in Fall/Spring. You shouldn't be worrying about whether big 4 or MBB research is better, you should be worrying about getting a job at either of them and if, in the rare chance, you get both offers, then worry about which is better.
I am also looking for job outside of the United States, where recruiting processes are different I was just asking you the reputations and difficulty of admission compared to MBB consulting Anyway thank you for comment
