Michigan Ross

I'm a fairly lost hs senior who was admitted into Ross, and I've been hearing great things about how well it places into finance but I haven't seen anything on how it places into MBB and top consulting positions. Does anyone know if Ross places lots of students into these positions, and whether or not recruiting is based off of what consulting club you're in like the bb and eb recruiting?

So if I am reading your post correctly, you are considering enrolling in the Ross MBA program immediately following undergrad? I didn't even know they allowed that...

MBB and other top firms will not consider MBA candidates without any work experience. I think Ross places fairly well to Chicago-based firms, but all of them will require at minimum 2 years of work experience before your MBA, with the average being closer to 5.

Yeah Ross places well into MBB. We are a target school for the Chicago offices. A lot of kids gun for MBB tho and unlike banking, non Ross students go for mbb as well, so the pool of candidates from Michigan is relatively large. Personally know many intelligent, well spoken kids not get MBB and ended up at places like strategy& and EY Parthenon, so by no means is it a shoe in (it’s not anywhere), but doable absolutely, and all three have on campus interviews (pre covid)

Would you say that UNC is competitive for MBB as well? I've received a full tuition scholarship there and admittance into the business school, so I'm trying to decide between unc, michigan, and berk.

As far as public schools go, UMich is going to be about as good as it gets for finance or consulting placements. I don’t have any numbers but I know anecdotally I’m pretty sure of it.

I am in a consulting club at a similar school, and it’s not like they allocate spots to our club. Rather, there is going to be a Bain-Michigan recruitment lead and ditto for Mck and BCG who is an alum of Ross and most likely the consulting club. The advantage is the networking/introduction to them and that the recruitment leads may favor students from their former club. They also likely have a lot of influence who gets a 1st round interview.

As far as getting into the clubs, usually you should just have a very high GPA and be able to do a case moderately well. It may help to have friends in the club too already
