Networking for mbb/big 4 in North America?

Hi, I was wondering how much networking matters for consulting if aiming for mbb or a big 4 firm? I am a junior at a target and after doing 2 internships in investment banking and realizing I hated it I'm trying to pivot to consulting at one of those firms. I spoke with someone at bain who told me that networking doesn't really make a difference and I should just focus on casing but not sure how applicable this is across all the firms and if this is different in the usa/canada as I've seen people in the EU say it matters less.
