Operations. It's not the glamour lifestyle all of the time (you may get lucky on some projects as I have), but it is consulting and some of the good companies (Slalom, for instance) have awesome benefits. You don't make MBB money, but you can pivot to M7 if you do it right and go on. Money is decent at some of the better firms as well, and there are plenty of others in the industry.

McKinsey actually came into the space recently; again, it's not glamorous office work most of the time, but you may get lucky (I was downtown San Diego for 6 months, Rio beachfront in Ipanema for 8, etc.)

Are you at a MBB? Any advice for breaking into that space (ops, not MBB)?

I'm not at MBB, but I know several people who went to unknown/tier 2 and 3 undergrads, did ops consulting and put a plan in action to build a profile, and got promoted/recognized enough to get into M7 and pivot into MBB afterwards. Enough research on the boards and internet and you can find out what to do, but I'm almost there myself (have been at my 'profile plan' for about 3 years - taking GMAT now).

It is EXTREMELY rare to get into MBB not having the schooling, especially out of undergrad. But don't let it discourage you, there are always outliers and there is always a way.
