Not getting any responses after submitting apps

Hi, so I’m the most anxious, I’ve ever been as I’m a junior trying to get a summer role . I’ve been applying to internships but not getting any responses. It’s been 3 weeks and applied to over 20 places. I have decent gpa and strong work experience. I’m also networking a lot: everyday I get on around 3 calls and I think I’ve been doing something wrong here as I never asked for any referral or such. I’d appreciate any advice.

those are rookie numbers. many of us spent months and submitted hundreds of applications with no responses. keep grinding and networking. Applications through career sites are often a black hole if you dont have a connection at the firm referring you. If the person you're on the phone with doesnt really have the pull to refer you, then ask them if they can suggest anyone else who would be willing to help you.

Will definitely be spending more time on networking. But the problem is , it’s already October and I heard usually that’s when companies stop recruiting. Idk how true that is as I’ve seen my friends getting offers in spring but I came from a non financial background and usually believe anything someone tells me.

While its true that the fall recruitment cycle takes places in July/August through October, maybe sometimes November, that doesnt mean all hope is lost for you to get a good summer internship. While BBs, EBs and other big banks may be the goal, dont overlook the value that working at smaller regional boutiques can offer. Having a good IB internship on your resume will help you during fall Full Time recruitment during your senior year. It isn't unheard of that the bigger banks open some applications in the spring time either.
