I am speaking from a different industry but for us we notified folks who failed security clearance with a letter fairly quickly. Those who were cleared were notified within 7-10 days.

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.
 

do you have an offer letter? if so, take it to the bank. unless something naughty pops up they letter is a contract so nothing to worry. if you didn't negotiate that the offer letter comes first but make it contingent on passing the check (if you didn't - why the fuck not?), then you might have been shafted if they found someone they liked more. good luck.
