Office on Fridays?

Interested to understand the general protocol for Consultants on Fridays at MBB, Strategy&. Are consultants expected to work from their home office on Fridays? If not, is there an "unsaid" expectation that you would work there at least every so often? Can folks work remotely for the most part every Friday if they wanted?

What about if you are unstaffed - are you expected to be in the home office every day then or can you work remotely?

You will probably be told early on that you need to come into the office on Friday.

At my MBB getting staffed on a case with a partner from your office is much preferred. So being around on Fridays can help quite a bit to network, etc. But, it's not like the partners and managers are just holding open office hours. Fridays can be even more busy than the rest of the week, because most people try to get a whole day's work done by 5 p.m.

After a while, you can certainly choose to be elsewhere on Fridays. For instance, these days I am working with a small team, with a manager from a different office, and a partner with a packed schedule. So I worked from home yesterday.

And yeah, when you're not staffed, you can hang out at home. I, too, was very hesitant to do this early on.

It really comes down to gaining credibility. Once you have 6+ months of solid work under your belt and are known as a hard-worker and strong performer, you don't need to keep showing up just for appearances.
