On an honest note: what are the chances of going mbb consulting from a non-target state with great stats.
I am an incoming sophomore at a big state school that has zero recruiting events from mbb, and there have been a few people who were recruited last year to mbb with fantastic stats and networking (president of consulting club, 3.9 gpa, solid internships etc.) but how realistic is that? What steps push you ahead coming from a non-target to beat out other semi targets and target schools with good stats? And is there anything specific an incoming sophomore should do to get to the next level coming from non-target?
Breaking into MBB consulting from a non-target school is challenging but absolutely achievable with the right strategy, as evidenced by success stories shared on WSO. Here’s what you need to know and do to maximize your chances:
1. Networking is Non-Negotiable
2. Build a Stellar Resume
3. Case Interview Preparation
4. Differentiate Yourself
5. Leverage Your Sophomore Year
6. Overcome the Non-Target Barrier
Realistic Outlook
While it’s tough to compete with candidates from target and semi-target schools, it’s not impossible. Success stories on WSO show that with exceptional stats, relentless networking, and flawless preparation, non-target students can secure MBB offers. The key is to start early, stay consistent, and be strategic in your approach.
