Possible to be Senior Consultant at Deloitte in 4 years?

Is it possible to be a Senior Consultant at Deloitte in only 4 years? I thought the track was BA-> Consultant -> MBA -> Senior Consultant. I met someone who claims to be a Senior Consultant in 4 years after ugrad, no MBA. I originally though you could only be a Senior Consultant after getting an MBA, but this seems not to be the case. Anyone can chime in?

From what I've heard, promotions at S&O are very self-driven. In other words, you identify it as a goal as part of your individual annual plan and if you can demonstrate that you achieved the goals / objectives and are a top performer on your cases, they will promote you. Tends to happen more often at the larger offices.

Very normal. In S&O, I've seen a strong mixture of three groups: people going to b-school after 2/3 years, people getting promoted directly to SC (2 years to Consultant, 2 years to SC), and then people leaving at the 2 or 3 year mark.

The reason why more people have been going directly to SC in S&O is because it's no longer a requirement to have an MBA. See the career track for S&O here: http://www2.deloitte.com/us/en/pages/careers/articles/join-deloitte-bus…

Within technology and HC, more people skip b-school, because, the perception/reality is that an MBA isn't as necessary to a long-term career at Deloitte (and you can easily jump elsewhere after you've built up the experience).

What is the salary of a SC direct promote? I heard SC after MBA salary is much higher, so wouldn't it make sense to go to MBA anyway? Also, doesn't Deloitte foot some of the cost?

Management Consulted has an excellent salary report -- I highly recommend taking a look at that. However, salary of a direct promote varies heavily, depending on your performance -- an SC direct promote might make anywhere between 105 and 120. The post-MBA SC salary is higher than this (again, consult the report), however you have to take into account loan payments.

Even if you've gotten sponsored, you'll still likely have to take out loans for living costs/travel. In other words, Deloitte pays for your tuition, but it does not pay for everything. And if you do a cost analysis, the amount of disposable income available may not be that different between a direct promote SC and a post-MBA SC.

You have to factor in progression too. If a person is able to get promoted without the MBA, he would have secured two more years of experience at a certain level and would within a year or two be primed for promotion again.

MBA is usually not a requirement at European or Asian offices for Deloittes.
