Q&A: Ex-T2 Consultant -> Corporate Strategy

Since recruiting season is on us, I figured offering a Q&A could be useful. I spent a number of years in consulting, most recently at a T2 firm in Europe before making a move to a larger healthcare-focused corporate strategy role (think Big Pharma or Big MedTech).

what country in europe?

how did you decide to go into healthcare corp strat?

which industries pay well for corp strat?

I left at around EM level and the corporate I moved to were able to match my compensation package. This is quite common when moving at the EM level. Granted, salary progression may be slower in corporates, but it's a fair trade when you consider significantly better WLB.

I focused mainly on strategy projects, some CDD for financial clients and the occasional operations project

Thanks for doing this! Just a couple of questions:

  1. Is corporate strategy that big of an exit in the UK? From my understanding most large F500 have their strategy teams based in US, so are you either limited to EMEA strategy teams or working only for FTSE 100 firms?
  2. Do they try and match your consulting compensation? E.g. after 2-3 years in MBB/T2 getting that Associate -> Consulting promo would they be able to match the Consultant level salary?
  3. How did you go about exiting consulting? Through the alumni of your firm? Or was it more being headhunted or just applying normally?

Thanks again!
