Recruiting and Networking for MBB as an Undergrad - When, How, and is it Important?

I'm current sophomore at a target school looking to recruit for a summer internship position at MBB for my junior summer and hopefully turn that into a full time offer. Is networking as important in consulting as it is in finance? Should I reach out to people before on-campus recruiting next fall? How do I go about this?

Thanks so much!! :)
