Renege on Back Office Role at MBB for Front Office at Tier 2

I recently accepted an offer to join a Knowledge/research team at an MBB, but suddenly received an offer at a tier 2 within a front office role coming in at a higher pay and tenure (research teams at MBB don’t get paid particularly well). Is it a bad idea to renege on the MBB back office type job to switch to a front office job at a tier 2 (i.e. OW, EY-P, S&, D S&O)?

Definitely renege the offer.  T2 consulting will be so much better for your career than joining the research team at MBB.  Sometimes you gotta do what's best for you and not worry so much about what the company thinks. Yes, it may be a bad look to renege Bain's research team for BCG's, but these offers are worlds apart from each other!
