Worth potentially reneging IMO. Any offer is a good offer in this economy, but MBB is going to open many more doors for you than B4. Highly unlikely they would talk, and an offer from McKinsey is worth reneging on EY audit.

Have you heard any instances of recruiters from the same undergraduate school they go to talk? That's what im worried about. Especially since I was unable to get my offer extended from the B4 firm.

Worth reneging.

No recruiters talk, it is literally against company policy and the law to talk about candidates across different companies and give information. It is considered unethical.

Also every recruiter is familiar with reneging it's a part of their job (I know several recruiters) and ey will have a certain percentage expected to renege every year, it's nothing new. If I were to guess, reneging percentage for ey is at least 15-20% and they incorporate that information when giving offers. I once interned at a bb where I know for a fact that the location I worked in at least 35% of the people reneged.

I know multiple people who reneged T2 offers for MBB or top IB and nothing happened to them, no one cares or cared, one of them even talked to the T2 firm they reneged from and they still have a good relationship with the folks they networked with there, they all understand that obviously someone's gonna choose an MBB over a low T2 and no one cares, they all just wanna do their jobs and go home, they're not gonna get butthurt over an incoming intern or analyst reneging lol.

And if MBB finds out you reneged on a T2 (which they won't) they 100% won't care because it happens all the time for them - people renege t2,t3,t4, t5, etc offers for MBB and top IB all the time. What you do with other companies is not their business, recruiting is a game and all MBB cares about is getting the top talent. This happens at all levels, from analyst all the way to partner and MD.

And obviously don't post on LinkedIn until you know where you're 100% going.

It’s not great to renege, buts it’s not unusual. If you get an offer from where you want and you need to renege then don’t tell them where you’re going and don’t post on LinkedIn for months. Keep it low key and when you do renege be very respectful about it. I think there’s another thread that talks about how to renege properly
