Reputation damage

I was a very stupid kid, fell in with a bad group while at college and grew up far too late. Nothing illegal, just alcohol abuse, cheating on SOs, being a dick, not taking school seriously. Managed to clean up my act as a senior and now will be starting at MBB. I still have a bad rep with people there. Does your reputation at college affect your career? Would it be best for my career to try and move abroad as soon as possible and start again? MBB recruits heavily from my college (it's HPYSM) which makes this even worse.Any advice/ similar stories would be much appreciated.Thank you in advance, and have a good day.

Dude…. you do not need to flee the country. Unless one of these people that hates you is your direct boss, make it clear that you don’t care and they can go and eat shit. Maybe you’re worried these rumors will spread across the firm? I promise you, they won’t, and if they did, no one could care less.

All the things you listed are normal course in MBB/IB - people continue those behaviors well into their professions. Good for you for having conscience. Don’t worry about it just keep being better.

I suggest fleeing the country bud. These things will always creep up on you and likely affect your bonus and work relationships.  I remember the one time when my VP sent an email at 3 a.m on a Friday asking about the time I got too drunk + threw up as a junior and asking me to "plz fix" my behaviour by 9 a.m the next morning. Not good!

As someone who also made countless mistakes in college, it really doesn't matter.  That's kind of the entire point of college.  I'd rather work with a Chad with a slight substance abuse problem then a nerd with a stick up his ass who will report you to HR for talking about busting Stacy's back out on Saturday night.  Just don't be the drunkest guy at your work happy hour and you should be straight
