Sending an informational session email after applying

So I applied to this summer internship boutique consulting firm through on-campus recruiting. They never came on campus, so I never really got a chance to interact with people from the firm. However, I have gotten really interested after further researching the firm. They won't be calling for interviews until about mId-feb. I was wondering if it was appropriate to send out an e-mail to the contact person on the on-campus recruiting website to point me to somebody who I can talk more aout the firm. Is it too much? (For reference, the contact person is the MD who is a recent alum (The firm seems to be fairly small). Also, should I mention that I am willing to visit the firm's office which is 5 hours away or does it sound too desperate?)

Here is a part of the email that I intended to send.

Dear XXX,

I am a XYZ junior who has applied to the Summer Analyst Intern opening at 'Firm's name here' through ABC. I have been actively researching your firm and have been extremely impressed by the impact and value that the firm creates for the ABC industry. I would love to get to know the firm even better and was wondering if you would be able to connect me with somebody who would be willing to give me some more information about the work and culture at 'Firm's name here'.

Many thanks in advance for your time and help.

Best Regards,
ABC
