Should I give it a shot

Hello WSO community,

I am interested in learning more about how MMB+other firms' would view my application. I've already talked to a few of my friends in consulting but wanted to cast a wider net.

If any current/past consultants here could provide any reactions/ responses to my mini-resume below, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Here are some of my stats/info. (a bit washed out to protect my identity)

Ivy+MSC - UG in STEM 4.0/4.0 GPA
President in XYZ Clubs for various things...

HYP+MS - PhD in STEM 4.0/4.0 GPA
President in XYZ clubs focusing on business, startups, and dancing... gotta get that salsa on.

Internship experience at a boutique consulting firm
Reduced operating costs by XX% through XYZ.
Increased rev. & traffic flow through stores by YY% via marketing campaigns.

Marketing Manager at a major tech company, smaller than Google bigger than Yahoo, in SF - been here for six months. I am not enjoying it too much and think consulting would be a better fit for me in terms of lifestyle, projects, pace, etc... I'm a masochist.

Would I be viewed unfavorably because of my industry experience? or would I be viewed as another PhD applicant.

Any suggestions or advice on what I should highlight would be great too.

Love always,

Seems like you have the mental horsepower, making you an attractive candidate. Know that coming from a PhD in STEM, they know your quant skills are good. What they will look for in evaluating you is how well you work in teams. If possible, I would try to emphasize the leadership experiences in your resume and application. Overall you look like a good candidate though

OP, you clearly have impressive credentials, but I'm going to come at this from a different angle. you have a lot going for you (good job, great resume), but how are your soft skills? consultants are client facing so the way you interview will be the only area you could falter. also, and I don't get this from your post, but people will be intimidated by you, so be sure to talk about your accomplishments when prompted, but still be humble. if there are any social events as part of the recruiting process, take extra care to not talk up your accomplishments.

FD: I'm not a consultant, have no desire to be, and I know only a few people in MBB. just some random life advice from a brofessor.
