Talent and rewards consulting?

Hey,

I'd like to ask what the overall perception of "talent" or "talent and rewards" consultants is. I'm applying for internships and there are various areas to choose from including this. Is it more like a fancy HR job or does it pass as a cool area in management consulting?

Is is very shit compared to e.g. investment consulting?

thanks

Talent and rewards falls into HR consulting.

I'm not sure what you mean by "cool". If you're interested in things like executive compensation, then you'd probably enjoy it. It's a huge field, and many big consulting firms have large practices in it including Towers Watson, Deloitte, and Mercer. I don't think anyone would consider it "shit"...it all depends what you're interested in.

I actually had an interview for this, and I was given a few articles to read to prepare including this article, of which the first line was:

They are, according to the head of their own trade body, the “devil incarnate”, professionals held in such low regard they have “horns growing on their heads”.

Didn't exactly paint a great picture of the profession...

I love how conflicting the above posts are but it also makes me more interested in hearing from more people. Would MBB like to see a talent & rewards internship on an applicant's resume, or is it better to do e.g. investment consulting?

As a student, I have no insight into how these different branches of consulting relate to each other and how well they are respected in the industry. It seems talent consulting is not the best way to go...i'd love to hear what everyone else thinks...
