Tier 2 Federal Tech to Google?

Hi Guys,

I recently started working at Deloitte Federal as a Business Tech Analyst. I'm only about two weeks in but everyone has been telling me to keep my end goal in mind. I've always admired Google and their work culture, and have aspired to work there since forever.

I am hoping to become a Product Manager at Google, but was under the impression I'd have to go through Grad School and rebrand myself. However, at a networking event, I met a guy who was a BTA for a year and then transitioned to an Associate Business Analyst at Google. He was, unlike me, a commercial BTA.

I was hoping for some more insight. Am I totally dreaming? Thanks guys.

Congrats on your new job. I work for Deloitte and can confirm that it is possible to change a job after just 1 year. Many of my friends have done it including peeps from Federal practice. Facebook, Google Microsoft are all hiring from Deloitte.

A good advice I can give you to help you make your dream come true - work hard your first year, be a superstar. Focus on your current project, do your best no matter how shitty the project is. It's good that you have a long term goal but you shouldn't be thinking of changing jobs after one year.

As a extra curricular activity you can try to learn what Google is looking for in terms of skills and try to develop them either on the project, PRD work, or through the Deloitte Learning Center. And only then, when you're about 1 month away from your 1st year anniversary, start networking and applying for jobs. Keep dreaming, dreams do come true! Good luck to you!
