Transition from asset management to consulting
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if someone could possibly explain how difficult (or easy) it is to move from an analyst at an Asset Management firm, to a strategy and operations consultant? Also, would having a CFA designation change it all?
if you want to make that switch, your best bet is to go to business school! Then its totally doable. CFA won't make a difference.

A little about myself. . .
I go to a semi-target with a fairly strong GPA. I'll be joining a major buyside firm for a summer position. I'm still uncertain if this is the career for me and from what I've gathered, AM seems to be a bit of a bottleneck. In short, I'm wondering how names like Fidelity, Wellington, T Rowe etc are viewed in MBB eyes. If I don't go into FT with this firm, will I get the interviews I want in consulting?
What's your academic background?
it's fine as long as you can handle the case interviews.
I'm a junior in finance
If you are going to do company analysis and you prepare for case interviews, you should be fine.
ok thanks. I was concerned because during junior year I didn't get a single interview with MBB. I'm guessing that with a major buyside firm on my CV I'll get in the door at least if I don't go to FT with this shop.
...because consulting starts and stops with MBB...
