Urgent Bain Application Question - Office Location vs. Referral Location: Should You Apply In the Same Office Your Friend/Referral are in?

For Bain specifically: I'm trying to essentially decide how much it matters, in terms of providing any sort of advantage -- in initial screening, or otherwise -- if you apply in the same office/city as your friend who referred you works in (and his friend you chatted with that liked you) -- vs. applying in city #2 where you really want to be located a few hours away in the same state (family moving here as well).

More background: I have a 3.3gpa from a top tier target Bus School (MBA), a low gpa of 2.9 from a non-target undergrad, B.Sc. Industrial Engineering, & 11+ yrs work experience some big brand names & fairly distinguishable

Going off intuition I would like to believe that applying to the same location your referral works in would be an advantage to you in the process. However, the reality is that I actually don't think it would make a significant difference and in all likelihood you are probably just as well off applying to your target city, while still including your referral's credentials, than if you were to focus in on just where your peer is located.
